Venus Rises from the Ashes
A trilogy of hand-painted leather eggs. This series explores the complexity of relationships and the intimate dance of femininity and masculinity within us all. Inspired by The Invocation to Venus by Giordano Bruno, each egg becomes a vessel of duality—where softness meets strength, and illusion intertwines with truth.
I see Venus not only as a goddess of beauty and desire, but as a force that carries both feminine mystery and masculine will. Through her, love can whisper like a wind or rise like a storm. That paradox became the heart of this work.
You’re also touching on something timeless: the inner duality within us all. Feminine and masculine energies aren’t confined by gender—they’re expressions of intuition and action, softness and strength, surrender and control. And Venus, especially through the lens of The Invocation to Venus, carries this complexity. She isn’t just a figure of beauty—she’s also a spark that stirs the universe.
Painting on leather eggs allowed me to visualize the layers of intimacy—how we search for balance, how we turn keys in the dark hoping to unlock something deeper. Each stroke reflects a different “key”—some born of imagination, others of reality—all attempting to fit into the same shadowed keyhole of desire.
Each of the three eggs serves as a vessel of duality:
– The largest represents the self—the conscious being who navigates the outer world.
– The medium-sized egg symbolizes the ego—the constructed identity that often seeks control and recognition.
– The smallest, most concealed egg embodies the threshold before entering the shadow—the hidden realm of deepest desires and truths waiting to be seen.
The title Venus Rises from the Ashes speaks to the ever-evolving nature of our emotional and spiritual journey. Like Venus, we are constantly transforming—rising through love, through longing, through shadow. In this rising, we don’t just heal—we awaken. The process becomes a transformation of consciousness, led by the intimacy of femininity and masculinity within us all. Our journey never truly ends; it only deepens.
